Top 5 Habits of Successful Nutrition Clients

Weight loss client success

After many years working with hundreds of weight loss clients - I’ve noticed some patterns in who has the most success. I want to share them with you so you can learn from them and dial in your nutrition for long term results.

Achieving your goals is a two way street! Your coach is always there for you - but ultimately what you do is what dictates your results. We give you feedback, support, encouragement, advice and help along the way, but what can you do to maximize your results?

Here are the top habits that we have noticed make the biggest difference:

learn from your past to lose weight with a coach
  1. Learn from your miss-steps:

You do not need to be perfect. In fact, learning from your “failures” will give you the knowledge and tools to succeed in the long run!

Be honest with yourself. Log what you ate even if you don’t want to admit it. Write a note in your daily tracking notes or your check in about what happened.

Don’t skip on the work. Leaving the day blank and pretending it didn’t happen isn’t going to help you. We can’t help you learn if we don’t know the situation.

Be curious, ask questions - like “why” did the day go this way? What might have happened if I’d made a different choice? This can help pinpoint areas to improve to set you up for success.

2. Communicate with your coach

Keep track of progress. The most successful clients fill in their check in every week. They log their food and make notes in their tracker. And they ask questions - even if they feel like silly ones.

Speak up. We love to hear from you! Communicate with your coach and tell them what is going on. Good or bad, we want to celebrate your wins, and help you grow from times of struggle.

3. Have a routine & plan ahead

Build a routine. Having a routine of eating, sleeping, and exercising at certain times, makes the whole day go more smoothly. You and your body know what to expect.

Plan ahead. When you plan your day or week out ahead of time, you don’t have to use as much willpower or motivation because the hard work is done. Now you just need to follow the plan that you’ve laid out for yourself.

4. Ask for support

Help one another.
You need support! This is especially true for anyone that you live with. Ask them to help you - are they willing to switch to a different flavor of ice cream that isn’t as tempting for you? Eat meals with more fruits and vegetables? Help with meal prep, and remind you that it’s time to go to sleep?

Sometimes it can be a difficult conversation. But it's worth sitting down with your partner and/or kids to discuss what you need to have success on your health journey.

5. Remember calories are like a budget

Don’t throw in the towel. Don’t give up and let 100 calories over become 2,000. If you go over your budget by $10, do you spend $1000 because you’ve already “blown it” and “fallen off the wagon”? No, that would be silly! But that’s what happens with nutrition. It happens. It isn’t the end of the world and won’t ruin your progress if you are a little over sometimes. And if you do go 2,000 calories over? Communicate with your coach, and learn from it for next time.

Are these the tips you were expecting? There are, of course, so many others I discuss with my clients, like sleep, water, eating out, walking, exercise, etc etc and so forth. But these tips? They are true for everyone.
